DHInfrastructure working with Maryland’s residential utility consumer advocate to protect gas customers

We are working with Maryland’s residential utility consumer advocate to protect gas customers. Our report, “Maryland Gas Utility Spending”, found that without significant regulatory action, gas utility customers will see substantial and continuing increases in their gas bills in the coming years to pay for accelerating capital investment spending by utilities.

DHInfrastructure’s Director of Utility Regulation and Litigation Brendan Larkin-Connolly recently testified on behalf of the Maryland Office of People’s Counsel on Columbia Gas’s proposal to expand its gas system replacement program. The expanded program could open the door to 17 more years of work and further increase cost for customers. The Maryland Public Service Commission is expected to rule on the case by December 8, so stay tuned!

Consumer advocates like the Maryland OPC play an important role in protecting customers. We work with consumer advocates and utility regulators domestically and internationally to advise on rate design and conduct cost of service studies in the electricity and water sectors.
