Armenia Variable Renewable Energy Integration Analysis

Organization: DHInfrastructure

Description

The World Bank wanted to support the Government of Armenia by assessing the technical and economic implications of variable renewable energy (VRE) integration and recommending measures to integrate VRE into the electricity grid.

Service Provided

DHInfrastructure directed technical and economic renewable energy integration analyses to identify impacts on Armenia's transmission and distribution network, including load flow analysis at 400, 220, and 110 kV. Our team (1) reviewed national transmission and distribution network plans, (2) identified bottlenecks, and (3) recommended network reinforcements necessary to incorporate assumed VRE capacities and estimated the cost of these reinforcements. Our team also conducted a sensitivity analysis of VRE development in Armenia, ranging from the World Bank's least-cost plan to a more aggressive renewable energy scenario.
