Power Supply Planning for the Republic of Georgia

Organization: DHInfrastructure

Georgia’s electricity system operator (GSE) and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of the Republic of Georgia wanted an update to a Strategic Environmental and Social Analysis (SESA) of planned electricity generation until 2047. The update would include an assessment of alternative generation plans and a separate environmental and social assessment of those plans.

Service Provided

DHInfrastructure reviewed the SESA report to understand the parameters of the original base case scenarios. We used an in-house dispatch model to assess the impact of various alternative scenarios, such as limiting construction on new rivers, limiting construction of large reservoir hydropower plants, installing more wind and solar plants, and limiting imports. The model ensured that the alternative scenarios would all meet domestic demand and export commitments. The alternative scenarios included sensitivities such as changes in future electricity demand, the cost of imports and exports, and the effects of energy efficiency.
